United We Stream: Livestreams for club culture with heart and technology

United We Stream is far more than just a livestream project – it is a solidarity movement to save Berlin's club culture. The initiative was launched in March 2020 by the Club Commission Berlinwhen all Berlin clubs suddenly had to close due to the Covid-19 pandemic. The idea was spontaneous but effective: “If you’re going to celebrate alone, do it right.” Since 18 March 2020, United We Stream Five hours of the finest electronic music every day, directly from various Berlin clubs, to the internet – live, high-quality, and emotional.

Media partnership with Arte Concert and radioeins

Thanks to the quick support from ArteConcert and radioeins As strong media partners, the first stream reached a huge audience. On the first evening, almost one million viewers clicked into the live streamThis shows that the demand for cultural online experiences is high. From day one, the ifbbw Institute for Visual Movement has been responsible for the technical implementation – from the image blending about the Live direction up to encoding and the smooth distribution to platforms such as Arte Concert and various social media channels.

100,000 euros in 5 hours – donation record for the club scene

On the first evening alone, United We Stream collected over 3,000 individual donations totaling more than €100,000. The money will go directly into an emergency aid fund for Berlin clubs and music venues with a capacity of up to 1,500 people. This provides concrete help that makes a difference.
