absorber, Diffusers and Bass traps are acoustic elementswhich are used to Optimize sound in rooms – especially in recording studios, rehearsal rooms, home theaters, or event spaces. They influence how sound waves behave in the room.
1. absorber
Goal: “Swallowing” sound waves, so Reduce reverberation and reflections
-
Usually made of porous materials (e.g. foam, mineral wool, textile)
-
Works particularly well in medium to high frequency range
-
Prevent the room from sounding “echoey” or “rattling”
-
Example: foam panels on the wall, ceiling absorbers
2. Diffusers
Goal: scatter soundinstead of absorbing it or directly reflecting it back
-
Consist of hard, irregular surfaces (e.g. wood, plastic)
-
Disperse sound waves in many directions → more uniform room acoustics
-
Maintain the “liveliness” of the sound without disturbing echoes
-
Especially useful in Control rooms, studios, concert halls
3. Bass Traps
Goal: Control low-frequency sound waves (bass)
-
Bass waves “accumulate” in corners of the room – bass traps are placed there
-
Usually made of dense, absorbent materials in triangular or cylindrical shape
-
Working in low frequency range (below 250 Hz)
-
Prevent booming or imprecise bass
